Tears, Joy & a Heartbeat

****Warning Ultrasound video below*******

I'm not gonna write too much this evening, but I did want to share this amazing day with you all.  Today we got to hear our little 7 week old baby's heartbeat, and the sound was more beautiful than anything I could possibly have imagined.  The U/S machine was not working properly, so we couldn't get a pic, but DH came to the rescue with his smartphone and took this little video keepsake which I hope will upload well enough that you can actually see and hear it.

My OB then proceeded to explain to me the many genetic screens she wanted to do, and all the reasons why, but I admit I hardly listened.  I found it hard to think about doing all those screens when they really won't tell us much, and they will probably just increase my already high stress levels by thousand.

We have a few weeks to decide.  What would you do?

  4. The video won't load for me :( Either way, I'm so happy you got to hear the heart beat, and that you got a video of it! That's awesome.
As for the screening, I'll do routine screening but to me, it pretty much doesn't matter what the results are, it will just prepare me if I'm going to need to research on raising a special needs child etc if you get what I mean.

  5. What a great sound and milestone! As for the testing, we didn't do any of it. I know there are some situations that would warrant it but for us we knew we were keeping what we had and we feared a false positive as apparently that can happen often with IPS testing, which would then lead you to an amnio and well the thought of a long needle going into my tummy just was not for me. There is a ton of research on the net about these tests. Good luck making your decision!

  6. Awww that is sooo precious!!! I'm so thrilled for you! Hmm, that's a tough call about the genetic screenings and such. I'm sure you would have nothing to worry about, but waiting for the results would be really tough. I'm not sure what the best thing is! Hugs.

  8. went through the same dilemma a few weeks ago and we decided not to do the genetic screening. It meant missing the chance for another U/S. Oh well.
So glad to know everything is going well :)

  9. Get the screens. There's never any harm in being prepared.
